Description:

The Health Education Unit of McKinley Health Center provides a wide variety of wellness promotion, and health education programs and services to students at the U. of I. A team of health educators within this Unit work together to promote a campus environment that enhances the quality of life for student’s at the U. of I.

The Stress Management PGA will assist the Wellness Promotion Specialist/Stress Management Coordinator with a variety of areas concerning stress management services and programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in enhancing the programs and services for the McKinley Stress Management Program, which will involve a variety of projects and tasks.
  • Become familiar with an array of stress related areas in order to be able to educate and inform others on the subject.
  • Facilitate stress-related programs to requested affiliates on and off campus.
  • Assist the recruitment and ongoing training of volunteers to present stress related workshops.
  • Offer creative, cutting-edge ideas to further meet student’s needs, as it relates to stress management concerns and issues.
  • Assist with ongoing projects as it relates to stress management, wellness, and marketing.
  • Research areas, as requested, to further the Program, and to create related handouts as needed.
  • Participate in the Health Education GA training held in August (mandatory).
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with supervisor.
  • Complete other duties as requested.
  • Once a semester you will meet with your supervisor for an evaluation of your progress and duties.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to diversity. You are working with a broad range of students with a variety of needs.
  • Understand wellness-related issues college students face in making difficult decisions. Knowledge of health and wellness topics preferred.
  • Ability to work as a team as well as independently.
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess effective organizational, planning, and conceptualization skills.
  • Awareness of and willingness to work irregular hours occasionally.
  • Display a willingness to learn, and interest in teaching/mentoring.
Compensation

We are specifically looking for students who have a background in Social Sciences or Health-related fields. The position comes with a stipend. The tuition and fee waiver is dependent upon departmental approval.
