Description, Responsibilities, and Qualifications

Description:

The Health Education Unit of McKinley Health Center provides a wide variety of wellness promotion, and health education programs and services to students at the U. of I. A team of health educators within the Unit work together to promote a campus environment that enhances the quality of life for students at the U. of I.

The individual(s) most suitable for this position(s) must be good at:

  • Organizing workshops and outreach programs for diverse student campus populations
  • Coordinating and reaching out to minorities, and groups with special needs
  • Organizing major campus events, including health fairs and panel sessions
  • Program planning, implementation and evaluation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The ability to collaborate, facilitate and implement illness prevention programs in Graduate and Undergraduate housing units.
  • Work closely with Director of Health Education to implement cross-cultural illness prevention programs at campus cultural houses.
  • In conjunction with appropriate individuals and Director of Health Education Unit, address the health/social needs of LGBTQ, students with disabilities, and other special population groups.
  • In consultation with Director of Health Education, plan, implement and evaluate illness prevention programs for international students, women, single parents, and family housing units
  • Multiple skills in programming/counseling in health-related fields
  • The ability to work with a diverse student population
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Good experience with health promotion/illness prevention activities

Qualifications:

We are specifically interested in students who have a background in Social Sciences or Health related fields.

Compensation

Graduate students enrolled in the Department of Community Health, Counseling/Clinical Psychology, Kinesiology, EPS, College of Education, Life Sciences and School of Social Work may be eligible for tuition and fee waiver plus stipend.
