Description:

The Health Education Unit is a part of McKinley Health Center, that provides a wide variety of wellness promotion, health education programs, and services to students at the U. of I. A team of health educators within the Health Education Unit work together to promote a campus environment that enhances the quality of life for students at the U. of I.

We are currently looking for a pre-professional graduate assistant for the Health Education Unit, specifically for the Fitness Health Educator. This position is a 25% appointment. Individuals most suited for this position must be good at organizing workshops, outreach programs, health fairs, program planning, implementation and evaluation related to fitness and exercise.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Multiple skills in programming/counseling in health-related fields
  • The ability to work with a diverse student population
  • Excellent verbal skills
  • Experience in health promotion and programming
  • The ability to assist in planning and implementing student outreach programs and activities pertaining to health/wellness, fitness, exercise prescription and programming, along with other health-related topics
  • Knowledge of fitness testing and interpreting results
  • Knowledge of basic ACSM guidelines for exercise
  • Participation in Health Education GA meeting in August (mandatory)
  • Regular attendance at scheduled meetings
  • General office skills

Qualifications:

We are specifically looking for students who have a background in Applied Health Sciences or a related field.

Compensation

Graduate students enrolled in the Department of Kinesiology, Community Health or other related fields may be considered for a stipend. The tuition and fee waiver is dependent upon departmental approval.
