Description of Research
Prostate cancer is the most diagnosed cancer among men, with nearly 200,000 cases expected in 2020. Correct determination of the prostate cancer stage provides more information in pre-clinical screening and guides therapeutic treatment, however, more accurate and non-invasive ways for prostate cancer staging are still needed.
My research focuses on developing a targeted hypoxia-activated photoacoustic probe to more accurately determine the stage of prostate cancer. Hypoxia is a common characteristic of prostate cancer tumors, so the successful development and optimization of this probe could lead to an effective predictor of treatment response.
